When I was a college student, when I was working as an intern at a venture company, there was a teaching from my boss at the workplace.
I was taught when I was given the task of writing.
My boss advised me, "First you have to sort out the content and structure first, then start writing. Word(as Microdoft software) is good to write."
Perhaps this is not a special teaching and it is almost common sense in business.
Toyota have the employees put together a slide of A4 report, and Amazon ban employees using from Powerpoint. These case is something related to the idea above.
But there is a continuation of his words: "I think Word is a groundbreaking invention. It's easy to clarify the logical structure, and if you would write disgusting sentences, it will be exposed shortly." He talked about how wonderful Word was. (By the way, he was originally a business consultant,after thathe went to Amazon, and of course he was quite sharp.)
This advice was quite shocking to me,and has been affecting me now.
When I heard this, I got a feeling that "I want to master Word!" strongly, rather than "Do I have to put it into words?".
If I was just said, "Let's use Word to construct your sentences.", maybe I would have just focused on the constraints and improve your sentence. It may not have springed more or less.
By giving me the perspective of "how wonderful Word is," I thought, "If I can master it, I might be as smart as my boss is." (I haven't met him for the time being yet, but I'm trying to catch up with him still now.)
I confess, though, that I don't use Word very much now for writing unless I was said to use it on business.
Personally, I use notepad,which is a default application equipped with Windows, because Windows Notepad starts up faster and lighter, and has no visual stress for me. (On Mac, I use text edit)
Still, there shouldn't be much difference. Poorly, I think that it is better than Word because it has less decoration and functions, which means it will expose the quality of my texts more strongly than Word.
Now that when I write texts,I recall his teachings.
(Thankfully, for some reason, every time I start Notepad (even if not Word),his teaching is still flickering unexpectedly more than I expected.)
And I think that when organizing information, we often use Notepad and spreadsheets (Excel or recently, almost Google SpreedSheet), which are indispensable tools.
So I sometimes recommend people around me to use notepad and spreadsheets better, but try to motivate them as much as possible and explain why they are great like my boss did for me.
