I don't trust fortune-telling or personality quizzes, and I don't rely on them — but one quiz I learned a long time ago has stayed with me.
I forget whether I saw it on TV or a friend put me through it, but it was a personality quiz of some kind.
"Name three types of people you dislike."
Back then I listed three types I found annoying or hard to deal with.
Since you're here, try it yourself.
Okay — the reveal.
"The three types you named are actually your own weaknesses."
I thought "seriously?", but when you sit with it, "maybe that's true" starts to feel plausible — that's the scary part of fortune-telling and quizzes.
Bad people exploit that soft spot, so you have to be careful.
Still, this one has stayed with me. And what I find personally interesting: the "three types you dislike" are easily swayed by recent events, so they can change often.
They're also shaped by people you've disliked or struggled with over your life — but even if someone left a fixed impression, time softens it, and your values shift.
So those three types keep changing — and by the quiz's logic, your weaknesses keep changing with them.
So I periodically think hard about three types I dislike, and check whether I've been doing those things myself.
Because I get concrete about the types I hate, it bounces back onto me — and that can be a bit depressing.
And of course you can shrug off weaknesses, but as much as possible I want to improve them.
Your own words and attitude are worth checking over and over. Definite thinking ≈ finished thinking — and if you keep thinking in absolutes, I believe thought ages fast. (In the sense of stopping and not growing, maybe that is "finished"...)
Doubting yourself a little is probably the right amount.
