"Likes" and beliefs

I am cutting down as much as I can on looking at SNS.
This is about something I was thinking around the time I cut it off.
It is a bit abstract and very personal, so it may be hard to follow.

There was a tendency I often saw on SNS that felt a little dangerous.
Take Twitter: when someone posts a negative opinion, a lot of likes can pile up.
People who liked it are presumably empathizing and agreeing with that take.

I wondered whether, in that moment, the people who hit "like" truly agree with the content deep down.
And here is an important premise: 【"they themselves believe (are conscious) that they agree"】.
A concrete case: a tweet comes around, you think "I get that," and you like it. (Leaving out cases where you like without reading or thinking.)
Put more grandly: you like it because some part of it matches your beliefs.

So — are people who like really agreeing because the tweet truly matches their beliefs?
The liker believes it matches, so it should be that way — but I suspect there is another case.

My conclusion: often people are not liking because it matches their beliefs.
Some of them, I think, like because "they understood what the text meant" — or more sharply, the instant they grasp the meaning, they abruptly hallucinate that it matches their beliefs, and a false empathy is born.

In short: it may be out of line with their real beliefs, but they reflexively empathize.

Forgive the tired phrasing, but in an age of abnormal information volume, you cannot check every thing you see against your beliefs one by one — so you reflexively empathize. That is the hypothesis.
(So if, when liking, you ever pause and ask "wait, do I really agree with this?", false empathy should be harder to produce.)

If the hypothesis is right, SNS makes it very easy to scramble people with information — and that feels dangerous again.
Regardless of each person's precious beliefs, emotions can be controlled easily.

If it sometimes fits that "you think you are empathizing, but you only understood the words, and false empathy was triggered," that is proof your own thinking power has dropped dramatically. At the least, keeping distance from SNS is probably right.
