The other day I had a day when good things stacked up.
Each one was small, but I noticed something again, so I will write it down.
I will write a few of them.
First,
There is a generative-AI-related tool I have been introducing recently.
It sits as a kind of operations-improvement tool needed while running marketing initiatives.
Through a certain opportunity I met the CEO who is building that tool.
After trying it and feeling it would contribute a lot to operations improvement, I decided to adopt it formally.
Still, errors were frequent, and I was using it while giving feedback directly to that person.
As they fixed errors quickly and I kept using it, small results appeared right away.
I was very happy about the results themselves, and on top of that I reported to them: “We got this kind of result.”
They were over the moon.
Happy enough that they could write a blog about how joyful customer feedback is while running a business.
After that we also talked a bit about how generative-AI tools in that specific domain should be.
I had only met that person once, plus the exchanges around adopting the tool and error feedback — but after reporting the results and the conversation that followed, for the first time I felt I touched their work ethic and personality.
I was glad I reported the results.
Second
There was someone introduced to me by the CEO of a company I used to be involved with.
The kind of person I had met a few times at drinking parties, exchanging conversation each time we met.
About seven years older than me.
Career also impressive.
Above all, their character is excellent — the kind of person who looks out for a younger brown-noser like me every time we meet.
We have no work relationship, have never gone drinking one-on-one, never messaged privately — but when there is a chance to meet, I happily go up and talk to them first.
That person happened to recommend a manga on SNS; it looked interesting so I actually bought it, then messaged them privately something like “It was fun.”
From there the conversation led to going for drinks. They are extremely busy, so I feel bad asking them to make time — but I am looking forward to it.
Third
A client messaged in a work group chat.
It was work-related, but quite frank and chatty.
I was about to reply normally as usual, but I answered with a slightly unusual turn of phrase and some humor.
I am not the type who usually sends stiff text messages, but it was a chat group many people see, so after sending I worried I had joked too much.
For better or worse, people I do not usually communicate with much — after seeing that — started DMing me or saying when we met, “Your chats are always funny.”
It felt like the distance shrank, and I was glad.
Fourth
I introduced a friend to someone else.
They apparently met online, and it turned out both used to be in bands and were from the same hometown — they had played the same live houses.
As soon as the meeting ended, both messaged me separately, and I was happy that such a coincidence exists.
As I wrote the other day, just because you introduced someone, you must not act like you “gave” something and get high and mighty about it.
Anyone can introduce people.
Still, it is nice when the people you introduced get along.
When these good things kept happening, what I felt was that taking one more step — going out of your way to get closer, or trying to touch that person’s values — really matters.
The fourth one is not that related, but again everyone is a person, and noticing “ah, this person holds these values,” and realizing the obvious but important thing — “this person is a person too” — is the point.
If after stepping in you think “that was different from what I expected; better not get involved,” that is interesting in its own way too.
That is all for now.
